purple and grey grey...

Lame, lousy morning...Afternoon is seriously perking up though....Got a package in the mail from my baby sis. She sent me some beyond fab and quite elusive purple ink pens...We have been on the hunt for weeks..I know, insane-but totally true- and writing in purple ink just makes life way better:)

Second sweet surprise came in the form of a super shout out on a fabulous event planning blog. Love to get surprises like that! Brittany, of Grey Grey Designs, posted an inspiration board for a Monster Truck themed birthday party and mentioned my upcoming Dirtfest:) Thanks a million Brittany! If you are not following Grey Grey Designs-you should be. Check out the amazing Retro Rocket par-tay she threw for her little Greyson's 2nd. My kind of party mama!

Back to the dirty little trucks and tires....Party is in 6 days!!!

dirty little tires in a tree...

Okay, they are not really DIRTY tires, but it sounded more dramatic....Here is a super top secret peek at one of the elements I am working on for the Monster Jam Dirtfest. I have tied these little tires to this silver wire tree with twine. Looks tough, but with a bit of tenderness...LOL! Trying very hard to keep the balance or macho and marvelous....I love it because it is so unexpected and just interesting and funny to gaze upon. This wire tree was a Homegoods find. It was originally in a shabby, distressed cream color and on top of that, the paint was chipping pretty badly. Extreme shabbiness. I took care of that with a few coats of spray paint and I think it is a jazzy little tree-perfect size and way versatile.

If you look closely, you will see this is the very same tree I used for my Rock Candy Chandelier presentation at the Super Grover Rave...Mama is resourceful and loooooves to reuse and recycle the stuff she makes...

Back to work over here....

black.white.beauty.butch.trying to balance it all in a snazzy little wreath.

Griffin's Monster Jam is seriously right around the corner...I am working on quite a few different orders and projects as well. Juggling to say the least, but so much adventure and fun! I whipped up this rockin' wreath to greet the guests at the Monster Jam Dirtfest. I will be using black and white harlequin and checkerboard accents throughout the party. I was totally inspired by a tutorial on The Long Thread, you can see here. I modified a little and used two different solid colored ribbon and one patterned ribbon. I topped it off with a butch little tire for the "men."

Super easy project, BUT, do as I say and not as I do..DO NOT use satin ribbon....I bought the satin ribbon in black and white and had all these dreamy, romantic notions about how gorgeous it would look. The harlequin ribbon is a little thinner width and grosgrain...Satin ribbon is a tough nut, my friends...It frays, I cut it, it frays again. I am not going to go through the torture of sealing the ends of these ribbons, so I will be giving this wreath little haircuts from now until May 23rd, cutting off the fraying fuzz..Please make one, and use grosgrain!

I think this wreath is the perfect way to welcome our guests to the Crush Fest....A combination of beauty and butch. I'm just a purple lovin' party Mama trying to balance it all:)
